Providence Health & Services Registered Dietitian - Dietary in Valdez, Alaska


Providence is calling a Registered Dietician to our Dietary team ( Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Seward Medical Center in Seward, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

This is a day shift on-call position.

In this position you will:

  • Assess medical nutrition therapy needs based upon patient's medical diagnosis, laboratory values, anthropometric measures, medications, age-specific requirements, and other co-morbidity factors identified by the Registered Dietitian or other members of the health care team.

  • Design and evaluate menus and select and maintain nutrition education materials. Update standards of medical nutrition care at least annually.

  • Develop the screening criteria to be used by nurses for identifying patient's nutrition risk.

  • Develop and update individual nutrition assessments and nutritional plans for PSMCC Out-Patient services and wellness coaching clients.

  • Provide nutrition education to patient, follow-up as required, and make appropriate referrals.

  • Accurately determine and record care plan in the medical record using accepted charting formats, computerized system, and forms.

  • Consult with patients and physicians, nursing staff, therapists, pharmacists, coworkers, and other members of the patient care team, keeping them informed of patient's nutritional progress.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or related field

  • Successful completion of a dietetic internship program

  • Continuing education in accordance with policies determined by the American Dietetic Association for maintenance of registered status

  • Current certification as Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the American Dietetic Association

  • Licensure in according with the laws of the State of Alaska

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Certified Diabetes Educator
