Providence Health Unit Coordinator in Valdez, Alaska
Providence is calling a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) (Medical Surgical, Variables, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. In this position you will:
Prepare medical record on admission, maintain all active medical records in designated order. Thins the active medical records on a regular basis. File medical records forms daily, obtain a medical record when needed. Utilize working knowledge of admissions computer program to update patient information. Generate and prepare required admission documents when required.
Maintain security of all patient medical records and security of the nurses station and acute and ER area. Ensure escort for discharged patients.
Establish and maintain daily communication with team and other departments. Facilitate inter-department communication regarding transfers, admits and discharges. Communicate and is a liaison with the physicians. Communicate effectively with patients and visitors.
Follow procedure for communicating medication orders to Village Pharmacy.
Assist in preparation of the appropriate forms for lab and radiology tests. Maintain tracking system to assure completion of all tests. Arrange delivery of specimens to laboratory. Prepare laboratory slips for specimens.
Accurately transcribe physician and nursing orders to the appropriate forms for the patient care plan; flags orders for licensed staff review and signature. Transcribe and recopy MAR’s and updates kardex. Assist in scheduling treatments.
Flag all medical record forms that require physician completion.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- H.S. Diploma or GED
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 1 year experience in health care activities or institutional setting, preferably as a HUC
About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
