Providence is calling a Clinical Assistant/Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (Medical Surgical Dept,Variable Shift, 0.9 FTE) to Providence Valdez Medical Center in Valdez, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
We have (2) positions open one variable primarily night shift and one variable primarily days!
In this position you will:
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Clinical Assistant performs detailed procedures basic to the well-being of the patient in the acute care setting. Receives report from the RN and collaborates with them for the known priorities of the day.
The Clinical Assistant organizes the front desk and performs clerical duties necessary to ensure a smooth clinical operation. This includes answering the phones and organizing phone/contact system with staff; keeping the area tidy by removing clutter and ensuring HIPAA regulations are met; sorting nursing mail; processing work orders and restocking of supplies. This position will perform word-processing tasks, and copy and collate charts and other documents.
Assists in the admissions and discharges of patients in the clinical area. This includes transporting patients to and from rooms, orienting patients to their physical surroundings, and accurately completing admission, charges for service, and discharge information. Ensures lab, radiology and CT requisitions are completed. Ensure meals are ordered, the correct meal is delivered, received and picked up timely from the patient.
The Clinical Assistant is responsible for collecting specimens and assists in performing, recording and reporting results. Other special skills needed are to process patient care tests such as obtaining and recording vital signs, blood sugar tests, urine dips, stool guiacs and EKG's.
This position is responsible for routine, ongoing patient care which includes: documenting Intake and Output of patients, providing assistance with personal hygiene, nutrition, activities and exercises while maintaining patient safety and patient rights at all times. The Clinical Assistant needs to function independently, show initiative to perform duties, and maintain strict confidentiality in regards to patients, residents, families and staff.
The Clinical Assistant must be able to work in high stress situations such as during a code, assisting with minor and major emergency visits, setting up for a Labor and Delivery and assisting with the body of the deceased. Must be able to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
This position assists in cleaning and disinfecting equipment and rooms according to safety and infection control procedures. This includes cleaning the ER and patient rooms; staff lounge and nourishment center and the appliances in these areas.
The Clinical Assistant participates and coaches in the orientation of new Nursing Assistants, attends staff meetings, in-service programs and assigned committee meetings.
Completes Competency Plan for assigned job and department..
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position include:
Successful completion of a state-approved nursing assistant course
Must hold a current State of Alaska CNA certification
New CNA graduates and candidates that hold a current, unencumbered nurse assistant certification or registration from another U.S. state must obtain the State of Alaska certification within four (4) months of employment
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 90 days of employment
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
6 months experience as a nurse aide, nursing assistant or private care giver
Knowledge of basic medical terminology
About the Providence Valdez Medical Center
Providence Valdez Medical Center is a 21 bed Critical Access Hospital and we employ about 100 people (87 FTE’s). Of those 21 beds, 10 are licensed Long Term Care beds and 11 are Acute/Swing Beds. We have four physicians on our active medical staff who practice out of the Valdez Medical Clinic. Our average daily census is three-four inpatients and 20-30 outpatients. Our facility contains an emergency room, labor room, post-partum, nursery, cardiac room, orthopedic, and med/surg rooms. We also have an operating room for emergency surgeries and elective procedures, C-sections, hernias and appendectomies. All our beds are licensed for “swing bed” status of which 1-3 are usually occupied.
