Providence Health & Services Certified Nursing Assistant/Shabaz - Long-Term Care in Seward, Alaska
Providence is calling a Certified Nursing Assistant/Shahbaz (Long-Term Care Nursing, Day, 0.9 FTE) to Seward Mountain Haven in Seward, Alaska.
The primary role of the Shahbazim will be to provide care to elders living in the Green House® home. They will protect, sustain and nurture the elders by providing assistance with activities of daily living and meeting other needs as required. The core goal of the Shahbazim’s work is to provide assistance in a manner that promotes a high quality of life and a positive elderhood.
This is a full-time position which will include 36 hours per week.
In this position you will:
Assist elders with personal care functions including: dental and mouth care, bathing, dressing and grooming, hair care, nail care, shaving, bowel and bladder care, and other personal and hygiene care.
Measure and record vital signs, weights, bowel and bladder output, meal and fluid intake, and other required documentation.
Work with new Shahbaz and with Shahbaz unfamiliar with routines. Alert education nurse of need for re-training. Communicate with coworkers at all levels to meet needs of elders. Meet with the CST to discuss elders’ needs and progress in identifying and correcting problems.
Prepare and serve meals and nutritional snacks per posted menu and stated preferences of the elder. Responsible for following all food safety rules (ServSafe), monitoring and documenting refrigerator, freezer, and dish machine temperatures daily.
Will work cooperatively with peers on the self-managed work team. The team and individual Shahbaz work collaboratively with the Clinical Support Team (CST). The CST directs all matters related to skilled nursing services.
Required qualifications for this position include:
High school graduate or equivalent
Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license
New CNA graduates and candidates that hold a current, unencumbered nurse assistant certification or registration from another U.S. state must obtain the State of Alaska certification within 4 months of hire
BLS certificate within four (4) months of hire
Successful completion of Green House® Philosophy of Care, Caring Reliably, Culinary Training, ServSafe, Dining Assistance, and Alaska food handlers’ card within four (4) months of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
6 months experience as a nurse aide, nursing assistant or private care giver
Basic computer proficiency

Teams are self-managed, have consistent staffing, and have strong patient to caregiver ratio. Caregivers typically have 5:1 patient ratio and work 12-hour shifts.
