Providence is calling a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Extended Care Facility, Variable Shift, 1 FTE) at Providence Kodiak Alaska Medical Center in Kodiak, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • INTERVENTION/IMPLEMENTATION: Carry out the plan of care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse through the provision of direct services and/or activities of other health care personnel

  • ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING: Perform nursing history and physical examination and reviews pertinent medical information to determine patient needs. Assessment and planning recognizes identify needs including age and diversity specific needs of the patient

  • PATIENT EDUCATION: Identify learning needs and initiates measures to meet the educational need of patient and family

  • DOCUMENTATION: Document the nursing process in a legible and timely manner according to department policies and procedures

  • ORGANIZATION: Use time effectively to set priorities and organize workload in a systematic manner. Maintain effective working environment by resolving work related problems that occur during the assigned shift and reports to the department manager as appropriate. Maintain an effective working environment with ancillary departments to coordinate the care of the patients

  • PARTICIPATION: Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department through active participation in staff meetings, in-services, and quality improvement/risk management activities to assure compliance with current standards of practice

  • Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of an accredited LPN program

  • Must complete required in-service annually as determined by institution/department

  • Current registration as Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Alaska

  • BLS or the ability to attain certification within 90 days of date of hire required.

  • Minimum Data Set (MDS) may be required if cross-trained in to Extended Care Facility

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year experience as LPN

About Kodiak Island Medical Center

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) provides comprehensive health care to residents and visitors of Kodiak Island. This critical access hospital features 25 acute care beds, including four birthing suites, one OB triage room, and two ICU beds. In addition, the Elder House, PKIMC’s long term care facility, has 22 beds.

PKIMC provides an extensive array of inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency department, surgery, laboratory services, maternity, general medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, sleep studies, specialty clinics, diagnostic imaging services and pharmacy and is staffed by a mix of primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists who provide family practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, radiology and general practice.
