Providence Respiratory Therapist I in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Respiratory Therapist I ( Respiratory Therapy , Night Shift, 0.9 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Perform mechanical ventilation set-ups, monitoring, assessment of equipment/patient interfaces, and make appropriate changes based on ABGs for both pediatric and adult ventilators. Perform bedside PFTs. Maintains current ABG competencies. Must be able to perform a complete respiratory assessment and make recommendations/changes based on the assessment, as allowed by protocols and hospital/department policies.
COMMUNICATION/COLLABORATION: Communicate patient’s status to health care team. Collaborate with the patient, family and members of the health care team; develop, implement, and monitor an individualized plan of care which reflects a standard of care based on best practices and evidence-based medicine. Actively engage in positive communication, feedback and on-going development of self and team. Take an active role in building and maintaining an environment that fosters open communication, patient and family centered care and healthy collegial relationships. Demonstrate adaptive/timely communication based on individual patient/family needs.
DOCUMENTATION: Be competent in the input and retrieval of information within the various forms of written and electronic documentation. Legibly document patient care activities and information in an accurate, concise and timely manner and follows all hospital and department requirements. Enter billing and charge information completely and accurately.
SAFETY/TRAINING: Consistently demonstrate and promote safe patient care practices: (i.e., hand-washing, positive patient identification, communication, reduction of infection risks and inclusion of patients/families concerns and access to health care team.) Provide safe quality care in an efficient, cost effective manner. Follow proper procedures and utilizes safety equipment appropriate for job. Follow all policies and regulations related to employee and patient safety. Remainscurrent with Annual Safety Update and Blood-Borne Pathogens annual training. Report any unsafe condition or accident/injury immediately to the Charge Therapist, Supervisor or Manager and if on unit to the charge nurse.
RESPIRATORY/PHARMACOLOGY: Dispense prescribed Respiratory Therapy medications and consult with staff physicians regarding orders related to Respiratory Therapy services. Has knowledge of adverse reactions and contradictions to all modes of respiratory therapy and is able to initiate immediate corrective action. Ensure patient safety by following all procedures related to the safe and effective delivery of medication. Report any medication error through the hospital’s reporting system.
Required qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED Or equivalent educ/experience
Must be credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
In addition to CRT or RRT, Respiratory Therapists performing in the Pulmonary Function Lab must also be certified or registered as a Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT, RPFT) through the NBRC or eligible to participate in the next available certification examination
Those obtaining NBRC credentials after July 1, 2002, must provide proof of credential renewal every five (5) years
Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) certifications
Newly hired Therapists who do not have these current certifications have one month (1) from hire for BLS and eight (8) months from hire for ACLS and PALS to obtain
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
1 year clinical experience as Respiratory Therapist
