Providence is calling a Patient Care Technician II (5 North Medical Oncology, Day Shift, 0.9 FTE, 36 hours per week) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Demonstrate understanding of and provides care according to Standards of Practice and the patient’s Nursing Care Plan. These duties are under the supervision of the Primary Caregiver and/or Professional Associate. Performs duties to assist in activities of daily living such as bathing, ambulating, and nourishment.
Record vital signs, I&O, weights, ADLs, meal intake, and other required documentation in an accurate, concise, and timely manner.
Report changes in patient condition, problematic and unusual circumstances to Primary Caregiver and Professional Associates. Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, and co-workers.
Communicate effectively with the RN or other caregivers regarding patient issues, family issues, MD issues, and equipment. Communicates in a compassionate manner to patients, families, and visitors.
Assist in the patient admitting, transfer, and discharge procedure. Transports patients via wheelchair and stretcher.
Assist with ordering of unit and patient care supplies. Restocks supplies and emergency equipment and replaces as instructed. Maintains and operates multiple pieces of equipment in a safe and effective manner to improve patient care.
Support and assist with orientation and/or preceptorship of new staff and/or students.
Accurately transcribe orders for patient plan of care. Performs computer order entry, transcribes and recopies MAR's, and updates kardex. Assists in scheduling treatments.
Accurately maintain patient chart and unit records according to procedure.
Establish and maintain daily communication with team and other departments. Recognizes and maintains patient confidentiality issues. Facilitates inter-department communication regarding transfers, admits and discharges.
Maintain and operate multiple telecommunication systems. Understands the process for downtime slips.
Assist in orientation/teaching other hospital employees.
Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Completion of a Medical Terminology course within 90 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Coursework/Training, Pharmacology course.
Coursework/Training, Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course.
6 months Completion of CNA program or six months of health care.
1 year In a healthcare setting.
