Providence Manager, Case Management Social Services in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling a Manager of Case Management Social Services (Case Management and Social Svc, Days, 1.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Oversee daily scheduling and re-alignment of staff to promote adequate coverage of all units, and to decrease and/or eliminate overtime use by personnel.

  • Manage throughput to decrease and/or eliminate diversion status by effectively intervening to move patients across the continuum of care.

  • Personnel management: Makes effective recommendations and works collaboratively with TCC Assistant Administrator related to personnel issues and needs of the department that includes: recruitment, retention, hiring, evaluation, performance planning, coaching, counseling, and terminations. Assists TCC Assistant Administrator to seek out or to develop and deploy educational opportunities as relates to licensure requirements and/or overall team growth. Encourages employee professional development as relates to specialty/licensure related field.

  • Demonstrate financial stewardship by operating within the approved budget for Case Management/Social Services Department with controls on charges, expenses, and monthly variances. Demonstrates an understanding how changing reimbursement issues affect operations. Serves as a role model and sets a clear direction to meet financial goals and objectives.

  • Build effective teams to improve processes and promote a high quality of care for patients. Promotes case management/social services that recognize age & diversity specific need/issues of customers served including those who are high risk/medically complex patients & those with complex psychosocial needs.

  • Monitor effectiveness of current processes – consistently seeking opportunities to improve processes and promote efficiency in daily activities of the department.

  • Report quality and risk issues promptly to TCC Assistant Administrator and appropriate departments. Identifies areas that would benefit from process improvement and/or performance improvement activities. Confers with TCC Assistant Administrator to develop an action plan. Assists in the development of collaborative clinical indicators with physicians and team for measurable outcomes to support and achieve optimal care, excellence and cost effectiveness. Indicators are developed; performance is measured, monitored, reported, and communicated to other team members. Involves team members in development and implementation of action plans.

  • Assist TCC Assistant Administrator in coordinating the organization of data for review and evaluation by medical and administrative committees to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and medical staff bylaws.

  • Utilize professional and technical knowledge and expertise to effectively manage day-to-day operations. Utilizes knowledge and expertise to develop and implement plans for program development, based on customer and stakeholder needs.

  • Serve on hospital teams/committees as assigned by TCC Assistant Administrator.

  • Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW)

  • Three (3) years clinical social work experience in a case management setting preferred.

  • Three (3) years general management experience in healthcare with one year management experience in Case Management.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • LCSW for Social Worker candidates. Additional certification in specialty.

  • Management/supervisory experience to include program development, regulatory compliance, reimbursement/payment issues, hiring and clinical supervision, budgeting and fiscal management, policy development and standard setting.
