Providence Health & Services Infant Nutrition Technician - NICU in Anchorage, Alaska

Providence is calling an Infant Nutrition Technician (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position, you will:

  • Prepare and deliver all infant feedings as ordered.

  • Verify new or questionable infant feeding orders with ordering MD/NNP with a registered dietitian for accuracy and obtain standardized recipes as needed.

  • Maintain daily records of patient profiles or update computerized patient profile regarding infant feeding orders.

  • Inventory and maintain sufficient infant formula and feeding supplementation stock.

  • Complete daily tally or census sheets indicating formulas prepared.

  • Maintain sanitation of the preparation area.

  • Manage unit supply of Pasteurized Donor Human Breast Milk (PDHM) and prepares feedings of PDHM for infants in the NICU.

  • Prepare formulations or standardized recipes as provided by the registered dietitian responsible for the nutritional care of the infants.

  • Assist in training other employees in infant feeding preparation and proper handling techniques, as needed.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Able to perform necessary mathematical tasks at High School level or above and be able to demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and calculate weights and measures accurately.

  • Food Handler's Card

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year of college education required (typically 24 – 30 semester hours or equivalent)

  • Experience in medical environment

  • Medical terminology experience

  • Food-handling experience, sanitation practices, detail-oriented related work

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is the only level III NICU in the state of Alaska. The NICU has a bed capacity of 42 with an average length of stay of 24 days. Significant subgroups include premature infants <37 weeks gestation, newborns with respiratory compromise, congenital anomalies and medical complications. Care in the NICU incorporates an interdisciplinary team collaboration to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
