Providence Health & Services Continuous Improvement Lean Specialist in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling a Continuous Improvement Lean Specialist to Operational Excellence at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

We are seeking a Continuous Improvement Specialist to act as a resource to lead continuous improvement events. This position will consult with executives, managers, and core leaders in support of continuous improvement events. A challenging and varied position, the incumbent will work with key subject matter experts and other team members to assure timely and quality completion of results-driven improvement work. This role will initially focus on use of lean management system and PDSA principles. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and will have a strong desire and passion to support the PHSA mission and core values.

In this position you will:

  • Actively support and incorporate the mission and core values into daily activities. Treat all others with respect and demonstrates excellence, justice, stewardship and compassion in daily work and relationships.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with a broad customer base and gains their trust and respect

  • Guide teams through completion of improvement projects to reduce defects, process variation, and/or waste with successful project management.

  • Define, develop, implement, and document process improvements on key initiatives that result in significant improvements in service delivery, increasing organizational effectiveness, supporting quality initiatives, and/or increasing the safety of our environment to those providing and receiving care.

  • Identify key partners and team members for each approved event or project using predetermined selection criteria. Leads, trains, and coaches team members.

  • Work closely with the Executive Team, Director of Operational Excellence, and Core Leaders to identify and resolve barriers to work completion.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5 years’ closely related experience includes 1 year documented experience in process improvement or documented completion of 2 successful continuous improvement projects

  • A consulting background in a high production, deadline-oriented professional work environment requiring multi-tasking, flexibility, and self-directed work

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year experience implementing continuous improvement infrastructure such as Lean Management Systems or rapid cycle improvement (PDSA)

  • Experience with Acute care healthcare experience
