Providence Health & Services Clinical Dietitian *On-Call* in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Clinical Dietitian (Nutritional Services, Days, 0.0 FTE) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Ensure that medical nutrition therapy is evidence-based practice in accordance with current standards and as outlined in the Nutrition Care Manual updated semi-annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Develop or assist with review of departmental policies and procedures. Assist with design and evaluation of menus and nutrition education materials. Remains current with updated standards of medical nutrition care through self learning and continuing education programs.
Establish work priorities to ensure smooth work flow and patient interaction. Screen all patients and determine each patient's nutrition risk. Based upon this initial screen, perform nutrition assessment and develop nutrition plan of care for all patients at moderate or high risk. Responsible for nutrition education when medical nutrition therapy is an integral part of overall medical care.
Accurately determine and record a plan of care in the medical record using accepted charting formats and forms. Responsible for communication of nutrition recommendations, plans, and needs to all members of the health care team. Document ongoing follow-up of nutritional care plan and additional interventions instituted. Document productivity by charging patient care related time per departments standards, reports any deviations to the Clinical Nutrition Manager in a timely manner. Gather patient data for clinical studies as needed.
Consult with patients, physicians, nursing staff, therapists, pharmacists, coworkers, and other members of the patient care team keeping them informed of patient's nutritional progress. This process is documented as described above. Provide counseling and education individually tailored to the patient's specific condition and home situation.
Strong communication skills critical to managing interactions with a wide variety of people from differing literacy levels, languages, and cultures. Written skills necessary for documentation in the medical record, as well as providing written information for home use. Prepare and present in-service training for dietary, nutrition and interdisciplinary staff throughout the service area.
Provide nutritional counseling services required by other community agencies or private institutions as specified in contractual arrangement or as a resource allowing other department programs to succeed.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition or related field and Successful completion of a dietetic internship program and continuing education in accordance with policies determined by the Commission for Dietetic Registration for maintenance of registered status.
Current registration as a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Licensure in accordance with the laws of the State of Alaska.
Note: Dietetic Graduates who are registration eligible (having completed a dietetic internship program as specified in education) may be employed for up to six months pending taking the registration exam offered through the American Dietetic Association's Commission on Dietetic Registration.
A Dietetics Graduate must complete all the competencies assigned to a Registered Dietitian, and may perform all the functions of a Registered Dietitian with indirect supervision.
A Dietetics Graduate must pass the Registration examination offered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration within 6 months of employment.
Dietetic Graduates are expected to obtain licensure immediately following certification.
BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- 1 year clinical experience.
