Providence Manager, Health Information Management, Onsite in Alaska

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Manager, HIM to work within our footprint states: AK, CA, MT, OR, TX and/or WA and be onsite.

Revenue Cycle Shared Services reflect the Providence employees who work throughout Providence St. Joseph Health and their family of organizations and affiliates in revenue cycle systems and structures in support of our ministries and operations in all regions from Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon, California, Texas, and New Mexico. Revenue Cycle's objective is to ensure our core strategy, committed to excellence, is enhanced along with the overall patient care experience (know me, care for me, ease my way) by delivering a robust foundation of services, operational and technical support, and the sharing of comprehensive, relevant, and highly specialized revenue cycle expertise.

This position is accountable for the operations and delivery of a best-practice HIM document-imaging, record analysis, physician suspension, medical transcription service model within Revenue Cycle throughout the Providence health system (including affiliates). This role includes developing and executing strategic and tactical plans around organizational transformation, integration, standardization, and modernization of health record processing HIM services. A strong degree of forward-thinking, leadership skills, business acumen, and communication skills are required for this position.

The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes Providence mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of HIM health record processing related services, including but not limited to: document-imaging, deficiency analysis, missing documentation, physician suspension, birth-certificates, transcription, release of information, QA, education, and training within designated scope of responsibility.

  • Ensures that all acute health record processing related services and strategic goals are aligned with organizational priorities and developed in a consistent and standardized manner across all regions.

  • Day-to-day management of technology, workflows, and use of common tools including document-imaging, record analysis, transcription, and other systems. Identification of new technology / tools to enhance efficiencies, quality, etc.

  • Participates in enterprise-wide health record processing related initiatives and ensures adherence to regulatory and accreditation guidelines.

  • Manages the daily missing documentation workflows including provider escalation activities as appropriate to improve cash flow.

  • Effective operational management of health record processing caregivers within designated span of control.

  • Develops standardized policies, procedures, and practices related to health record processing across the enterprise.

  • Establishes and monitors compliance to all related HIM KPI’s and other metrics.

  • Challenges the status quo and delivers innovative methods to gain efficiencies, reduce costs, increase automation, and improve quality.

  • Involved in projects which include: financial and quality analysis, problem solving, and team collaboration while leading a multidisciplinary team to advance revenue cycle programs.

  • Participates in integration activities to standardize complex and disparate processes to best-practice standards across multiple facilities.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities, addresses obstacles, and contributes to transformational activities related to modernization and innovation.

  • Establishes strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders such as Coding, ROI, Data-Integrity, CDI, Risk/Integrity/Compliance, Quality, providers, Information Services, ministry executives, vendors, payer-yield, and other departments within the organization.

  • Develops standardized policies, procedures, and practices related to health record processing across the enterprise.

  • Leads caregiver engagement activities and develops an environment of trust, collaboration, support, enrichment, and cohesiveness amongst caregivers on his/her team.

  • Knowledge and support of performance metrics for compliance and workflow optimization across revenue cycle operations. Embraces achieving best practices efficiently.

  • Optimizes resources, promotes good stewardship, monitors and maintains control of department budgets and staffing.

  • Consistently displays awareness and sensitivity to the needs of internal and/or external customers. Proactively ensures these needs are met or exceeded.

Required qualifications:

  • 6 years experience of closely related experience

  • 4 years of of Leadership role in HIM in a complex healthcare environment such as a large multiple hospital health system.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Business, or a related field or equivalent education/experience:
